Strawberry & Pimm’s – Spooky and Boozy Halloween Milkshake

A few weeks ago I got a newsletter from the talented Natalie Jacob of Arsenic Lace. In case you don’t know her blog please check it out, she creates the most amazing cocktails, and I adore her photographs.

In her newsletter, she mentioned that she always gets tons of leftover syrups from the cocktail she mixes, as a contributor for great blogs like A Beautiful Mess and she came up with recipes for other drinks, where she re-uses these syrups.

Great idea to copy. I still had this leftover strawberry & earl grey syrup in the fridge from my Pimm’s Punch and tried to figure out how to use it.

Shake it, Baby!

I have a confession to make; I don’t like ice cream! Ehmmm, what?

Yes, it’s actually true. I’m not a huge ice cream person, in fact there are very few flavors that I like, and even then, it would not be my first choice of sweet treat.

That’s different when the ice cream comes in the form of a milkshake. Milkshakes are a great way to have something sweet but still add a lot’s of vitamins from the fruit and milk. Especially when you can buy raw milk in the place, you are living, as this stuff is full of essential nutrients.

Milkshakes also give me that feeling of sitting in a diner, back in the 50’s, listen to some love songs from the jukebox and waiting for my sweetheart. The mid-century fan in me just loves this idea.

Strawberry & Pimm’s – Spooky and Boozy Halloween Milkshake

For the shake:

Print
Ingredients
  • 1/2 lb pound organic frozen strawberries
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1-2 drops peppermint oil (optional)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (I love to use raw milk, if you can’t get it where you live, use organic)
  • 1/4 cup Pimm’s no.1
  • 1 pint strawberry ice cream
  • whipped cream & marshmallows for decoration
Instructions
  1. Mix everything in a blender until smooth.

  2. If it’s too thick you can use a bit more milk or (if you like it boozy) add some more Pimm’s

  3. Paint a spooky ghost face on the marshmallow with a food decorator pen

For the syrup:

Ingredients
  • 1/4 lb strawberries
  • 1 tsp organic lemon
  • 1.5 oz sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp earl grey tea leaves
Instructions
  1. Wash the strawberry and cut of the stem base. Cut the strawberries in cubes.

  2. Use the strawberry and add half the lemon juice

  3. Add sugar and tea leaves and bring to boil.

  4. Simmer for around 5 minutes on small heat until you have syrup

  5. Strain it and let it cool down.

Serves: 2

I think Pimm’s is excellent outside the long drink glass, I used it many times in baking or cooking, with its tastes of spice and citrus fruits, it is just perfect to accompany anything sweet.

Sure, for your little guests, this shake works perfectly fine minus the boozy part, but adding the Pimm’s is just more fun for us adults!

Sure, in Fall it’s not really strawberry season. But first of all, you will use frozen strawberry anyway, and with the spices, in the Pimm’s I found it a great shake to serve at this time of the year.

Also, the earl grey in the syrup helps with that warming feeling, we all you can think is fifty shades of grey, when you look out of the window (and yes I do mean the weather, not the book).

Decorate the whole thing with some ghost marshmallows and add some “blood stains,” with the strawberry & earl grey syrup and you have this Halloween party dessert sorted.
