Swiss Advent Sweet Bread Man
There are probably few countries that are as perfect for the Christmas season as Switzerland. Whether in a romantic snow-covered mountain village or with a mulled wine at one of the numerous Christmas markets, Christmas is celebrated big, in Switzerland.And all starts in the Advent season. Especially on December 6th, St. Nicholas Day, you will find a special pre-Christmas treat on the shelves of the bakeries. The Grittibaenz, a sweet bread man. But of course, the most delicious Grittibaenz are home baked. You can give free rein to your creativity and the whole thing is fun for young and old. Bring a little Swiss Christmas spirit back to your home with the recipe for original Swiss Grittibaenz, the sweet little bread men.

Sweet Bread Man Recipe
- 19.5 oz flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 3 oz butter melted
- 3 oz milk luke warm
- 1 egg
- 1 oz baker's yeast
- decorating sugar
- 1 egg beaten
Mix flour, salt and sugar.
Add melted butter.
Mix milk, egg and yeast and add to the other ingredients and knead to a smooth dough.
Let it stand for around two hours, covered and in a warm place.
Use some more flour to form 2 Bread Man of about the same size (be creative!) . Keep some dough to create for plaits for the hair or for other decoration.
Decorate with nuts, dried berries, sugar etc.
Pre-heat the oven on 390 °F
Mix the beaten egg and egg-wash the dough man.
bake for about 25 minutes in the middle of the oven.
